DDoS Explained

What is DDoS?

DDoS stands for Distributed Denial of Service attack. A DDoS attack is when someone sends multiple packets to a webserver, usually using a botnet. This causes the website to overload and go offline.

If you're like most people, you probably have no idea what that means. Essentially, it means someone tries to send lots of data to a server (wbesite) so it can't handle it, and crashes. It's a bit like when you try to open to many applications on your computer. It may crash because it is being overloaded.

Many hackers will use a botnet, which is kinda like a computer zombie army. A botnet starts with a virus that infects multiple computers. Then whenever the hacker wants, they can take control of your computer and start sending lots of data to the website. Because there is so much information from so many computers, it is fairly easy to pull off a DDoS attack if you have a botnet.
